How to remove wax from clothing

Image
Wax can be incredibly difficult to remove from clothing if not dealt with appropriately. Before you try any of these methods, scrape as much wax as possible from your garment using a dull knife or spoon. Iron  Hairdryer  Boiling water  Freeze Iron  One of the most effective ways to remove a wax stain is to heat it with an iron. Place a paper towel over the stain and on the underside. For extra protection, you can place a thin cloth in between your iron and the paper towel. Use a low heat setting on your iron, and press it onto the stain. This will melt your wax and allow it to drip onto your paper towel. If your stain is on a fleece or wool garment, it is best to use blotting paper rather than paper towels as the paper may stick to your item.  Hairdryer  If you are wary about using an iron to remove your wax, you can use a hairdryer. In the same way as you would use the iron, place a paper towel over and unde...

How to Wash Tie-Dyed Items

Image
Tie-dying fabric is such a wonderful summer activity, and one I am sure a lot of you are enjoying in your homes as the season wraps up! It’s perfect for all ages, with vibrant colors bleeding through in a myriad of patterns and designs. Creativity you can wear! We want those colors to stay just as exuberant with each wash as the day you made them, so I have assembled a few best practices for washing your tie dye fabrics.  Washing for the first time: Try soaking your tie dye in equal parts white vinegar and cold water for 30 minutes after you initially rinse out the dye from your garment to help with colorfastness. Toss your pieces into the washing machine with other newly tie-dyed items in a similar color scheme. Avoid adding other clothing to this wash, as the dye can run. Set to the smallest size load. Add laundry detergent. May we suggest one of our Small Loads Pods? Set the water temperature to hot. (The hot water will help set the dye.) Wash! Place your it...

How To Wash Dry Cleaning Items at Home

Image
I have got an exciting How-To today that we hope will make taking care of some of your more delicate items a breeze. Lots of folks have been steering away from sending clothes to the dry cleaners recently, whether it be for financial reasons, environmental reasons, or just because of restrictions during the COVID19 pandemic. Most dry cleaners use perchloroethylene and other chemicals (which can linger in our waterways). Additionally, there are always those pesky plastic bags your items get returned in! Before you take the plunge to wash your “dry clean only” item, see if you can get away with a simple spot clean! A paste of baking soda and water is a great way to pre-treat stains on clothes before you wash it off. A spot clean is also a great way to test the fabric safely. Drip a small amount of water (and perhaps the detergent you plan to use) onto a small, unseen portion of your garment, then rub a cotton swab across the area. If the fabric's dye stains the cott...

7 Ways to Make Laundry Easier

Image
  1.  Sort as you go Instead of wasting time sorting clothes into loads on laundry day, sort as you go with multiple hampers. This will take away that extra step on laundry day. It also allows you to customize your loads of laundry how ever you prefer. If you like to wash each family member’s laundry separately, set your hampers up and label them with each person’s name. If you prefer to wash loads by color or texture, label each hamper that way. On laundry day, take each hamper one at a time to the laundry room and simply transfer all the clothes from the hamper to the washer. No sorting necessary! 2.  Stain treat as you go Just like sorting laundry, stain treatment on laundry day can take a ton of time (especially if you have messy kiddos). The time and energy it takes to look at each piece of clothing from the hamper, one-by-one. Then, treating all the stains BEFORE you can start the washer is a pain. Instead, treat them as you go by keeping some ...
