How to Get Your Silk and Satin Dresses Ready in Time for Christmas

It’s wonderful to see the young and old dress in their finest to celebrate Christmas. The beauty, charm and jubilation are what make the season so special. While there is no dearth of fabrics to choose from to stitch your dress, the timeless charm of silk and satin make them a favourite for this time of year.
Silk and satin are delicate fabrics and need some extra care. In this article, we tell you simple tips to get your silk and satin dresses ready for Christmas.

1) Remove Stains

To remove stains from your silk or satin dress, create a solution by mixing 2 cups of mild detergent and 2 tsp. of vinegar in a bucket of cold water. Soak the affected area of the dress in this solution for 30 minutes. Then, hand-wash the stained area gently under cold, running water. This method will remove the stain easily.

2) Wash

Check the care label to see the wash care instructions. If it suggests machine-washing, drop the garment in a mesh bag and run a gentle wash cycle. This will prevent your delicate garments from getting tangled with other garments in your laundry. Make sure you use cold water settings and a mild detergent. If you’re hand-washing, soak the garment in a bucket of cold water mixed with 2 cups of mild detergent for 20 minutes. Then gently rinse and wash in a bucket of cold water.

3) Add Fragrance

Use a fabric softener if you want to add a fresh fragrance to your Christmas dress. If you use your washing machine, add 1 tbsp. of fabric softener during the rinse cycle. If you’re hand-washing, add ½ a tbsp. of fabric softener to a bucket of water after you’re done rinsing your dress. Drop your dress in the bucket and wait for 15 minutes.

4) Dry

After washing, lay your dress flat on a clean towel. Roll up the towel and gently press it to get rid of excess water. Unroll the towel and shift the garment to another dry towel and let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
